About Us

Hello! We are Claire and Wil. We founded Charlie’s Place in 2018 following many years of taking in, rehabilitating and caring for a plethora of species.

In 2018 we were at our capacity and couldn’t help any further animals due to time and funding restraints. We were approached by someone to take in a large group of rescued hens. We had the choice to decline or officially become a sanctuary, where we could have volunteers and accept donations. And that’s exactly what we did!

Charlie’s Place was named after our wonderful ex-race horse, Charlie, who passed away the previous year aged 34. We wanted to keep his memory alive and help as many animals as we could, and that keeps us going every single day. We were soon joined by Jonathan pig and some Aylesbury ducks and since then, we have around 100 residents at any one time. Many of our animals have been rescued from the egg and meat industries, and here at our sanctuary, they are given a second chance at life.
